Awarded the coveted and competitive 1996 Byera Hadley (Travelling)
Post Graduate Scholarship for architecturally related research.

Awarded Masters Degree from London Guildhall University in (Design Research for Disability) 1998 following the succesful completion of a two year full time course in residence as a visiting research scholar in London, England.


Awarded the DIA (Design Institute of Australia) 'Gold Citation' in 2002 for a 'lifetimes achievement and service to the profession of design'.
Awarded a 'Life Fellowship' of the DIA in 1997 in recognition of my work as a practicing interior designer and work as a foundation member in 1957, former Chapter President and National Councilor.
Elevated to Fellowship of the RAIA (Royal Australian Institute of Architects) in 2006 based on the quality and consistency of my professional work in the practice of architecture throughout my career.
Awarded Fellowship Diploma of the UK based CSD (Chartered Society of Designers' in 1982 in recognition of the quality and consistency of my work as a practicing designer, writer and teacher.

Research Profile

Have authorised 17 published papers on subjects dealing with disability access design, aged care and safety.
I am currently conducting research at Doctoral level in conjunction with the authorship of two books, one dealing with access to the traditional workplace by people with disabilities and the other dealing with the adaptation of existing housing stock specifically related to people with disabilities and families providing care and support.

Honorary Work & Teaching / Leadership Rules

Provision of honorary design work for the following organizations; Lions Club of St Kilda, the ACT Society for Physically Disabled Children, Rotary Club of Ginnanderra, Western Districts (ACT) DRUFC, Bowral Blacks RUFC, RAE Tunnel Rats Vietnam War Memorial at Holsworthy, DARE/ACT, Cairns Disability Discrimination Legal Service, Toy Library for Disabled Children ACT.
Over the past thirty years have provided part-time and guest/visiting lecture services to the Chartered Society of Designers, Royal Institute of British Architects and the Architectural Association School of Architecture in the UK and in Australia, at UNSW, Aust IE, Royal Australian Institute of Architects, Design Institute of Australia, the Design Centre (TAFE) at Enmore NSW and Bruce TAFE colleges.
Represented DIA as the official Australian representative at IYDP UN Conference in Houston USA 1981, Former chairman of the RAIA Sydney Northern districts network and the Sydney metropolitan architects network, Former ACT DIA Chapter President and NSW Vice President. RAIA nominated representative of the standards committee on safety in housing and former member of the ACT ACROD Access and mobility committee.
Former service in the British and Australian Army (Royal Engineers and Royal Australian Engineers) including service as a Troop and Squadron Commander, ADC and mine warfare training officer.
