  • My work over the span of the 43 years in private practice, commencing initially in Melbourne in 1965, later in Bowral NSW, Canberra and since 1990 in Sydney, has been particularly diverse in terms of building types.

  • Private housing, new and renovated, has been and still is a major forte, with commercially oriented projects such as retail shops, restaurants, cinemas, exhibition centres, licensed clubs and office fit-out being equally prominent in my extensive portfolio of successfully completed work.

  • During an intensive period from 1978 to 1992 I completed the design, documentation and contract administration of 151 speciality retail outlets including eight Credit Union facilities plus four cinema outlets, eight medical and dental centres, a senior Citizen club, twelve licensed clubs in the ACT and South Coast of NSW plus, the 'RDA' (Riding for the Disabled) Centre in Holt ACT and the residential hostel and care centre in Lyneham for the ACT Society for Physically disabled children.

  • I had the honour of being the architect/designer of the first interpretive exhibition centre at KAKADU in Jabaluka NT, the temporary exhibition building extensions for the New and Permanent Parliament House of Australia and the design proposals for the Royal Australian Mint also in Canberra, in addition to being appointed as the honorary architect for the war memorial for the Royal Australian Engineers "Tunnel Rats" at Che Chi, Vietnam, at Steele Barracks, Holsworthy NSW.

  • Was appointed by the Foreign Affairs Dept of the Commonwealth Govt, to design and direct on site, the interiors of the 'Head of Mission's residence in Santiago Chile.

  • Was appointed by the NSW State Office of the Dept of Veterans' Affairs as their initial (and only) access advisory architect on a continuous part time contracted consultative basis from 2000 to 2005.

  • Currently the area of specialisation for which I am best known is for accessibility design specifically related to the needs of people with disabilities attempting to cope with the built environment.

  • This component of my practice skills base has grown steadily over the past twenty five years, covering the renovation and adaptations of existing houses for individual clients, to the provision of 'EXPERT OPINIONS' and related 'EXPERT WITNESS' work in close collaboration with law firms, insurance providers, consulting occupational therapists, carers and families of people with disabilities.

  • I apply this proven and successful area of my access design expertise to all of my work, in the firm belief that in addition to my personal commitment to 'Universal Design Principles' many people now feel that access in the built environment is both a basic right and a responsibility for all connected with the building industry (and particularly architects and designers) to deliver in their work without question or additional cost.
